A Message from Kari Murray
My mother, Claire Murray passed away on April 15, 2026, at home surrounded by her family after a brief and sudden illness. She traveled widely throughout her life exploring destinations across the globe while remaining rooted in Cape Cod for more than 35 years before eventually moving to Pacific Grove to be closer to her family.
Many, many years ago we moved to Nantucket Island, and it was here, during a winter ferry ride, that my mother discovered rug hooking—a craft that would become the foundation of her life’s work. She began creating hooked rugs using her own whimsical and coastal designs inspired by the places she loved, reflecting both her imagination and surroundings.
During the quiet season on Nantucket, she hosted workshops that drew participants from across the country and beyond to study needle arts, weaving, and other traditional crafts.
Claire was committed to preserving the integrity of handcrafted works, passionate about supporting women entrepreneurs and preserving the beauty of coastal environments. Above all, she was defined by her deep joy in life and her ability to bring beauty, warmth, and imagination into our everyday lives.
Over the years I have worked with my mother at Claire Murray and have a deep, continued commitment to preserving the integrity and handcrafted work she has created. With the support of the Claire Murray employees and our customers we will continue to honor my mother every day.
